Dr. Kevin Burns
My name is Kevin Burns. My wife Jill and I were married in 2004, and we have three daughters. I was born and raised in Mesa, AZ. I grew up in a large family with three brothers and three sisters. After graduating high school, I spent two years serving the people of Honduras and learned to speak Spanish and still do today. My experiences in Honduras were most humbling.
I attended Arizona State University and earned a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies Magna Cum Laude with emphasis in Biology and Small Business. During college, I worked for a concrete company and helped lay foundations of many of the homes and businesses in the Gilbert, Queen Creek, and Chander area. After college, I attended Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine as a member of the 2008 inaugural class and earned the degree of Doctor of Dental Medicine graduating in 2012. Upon starting dental school, I was awarded a scholarship to the United States Navy Health Professions Scholarship Program. Prior to graduating dental school, I was elected to membership in the Honor Dental Society of Omicron Kappa Upsilon.
Upon graduating from dental school, I entered active-duty service in the United States Navy as a naval officer and dentist. My naval service includes one year of additional general dental hospital level training at Naval Medical Center San Diego. I was then assigned to the USS Bataan (LHD 5) for 2 years that included deployment to the Middle East region. I returned to Naval Medical Center San Diego and completed residency training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. I was then assigned to back-to-back operational duties on the aircraft carriers USS Harry S Truman (CVN 75) and USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 75) as the oral and maxillofacial surgeon, ship’s second surgeon, and ship’s second anesthesia provider. I completed my naval career December 31st, 2023, after 12 years of service grateful for many professional and personal growth opportunities as well as a great pride for the United States of America and following the military service of my father who served during the Vietnam War and my grandfathers who served in World War II.
I am a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery; a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon trained in the United States Navy at Naval Medical Center San Diego. I have performed numerous and various oral and maxillofacial surgery procedures here in the US, overseas, and on the seas of naval vessels.
